Welcome to the Kootenay Library Federation
What’s in a hub?
It’s more than just the middle. It’s the point from which everything begins. It’s an epicenter of energy. It’s the place we start.
The 2013 Kootenay Library Conference is a conversation about what it is to be an educational and social hub in our changing communities. As we redefine the language with which we interact and learn, Libraries are there to be the meeting place for dialogue and discovery—the hub.
Like a wheel, a community is the sum of parts. In this conference we’ll look at things from the inside out, and from the outside in, hub to spokes to the new directions we’re rolling. Workshops on communication—through social media and storytelling, with our politicians, with youth, and with one another—are complemented by tool-building sessions, the better to keep our wheels in motion, such as fundraising, financial literacy, coaching, board-building, and more.
Our keynote speaker, Nora Young—host of CBC Radio’s Spark and author of Virtual Self: How Our Digital Lives Are Altering the World Around Us –brings a fresh note to the conversation, so we’re fully in gear for the road ahead.
The Kootenay Library conference is supported by several organization. We thank the Columbia Basin Trust, the BC Libraries Cooperative, the Province of BC - Ministry of Education, the BC Libraries Trustees Association, United Library Services, Courthouse Libraries BC, Interior Health Authority, Kamloops & District Elizabeth Fry Society, the public libraries in Vancouver, Nelson, Cranbrook & Penticton, the Northeast and IslandLink Library Federations and Scrappers Cove (Invermere) for their contributions to our conference.
